He caught this during an evening expedition to the backyard pond.
And this one...
He caught this after mowing the bank of said pond. **shudder** We think it's a copperhead, but not completely sure since we're not snake experts. Anyone know about snakes?! It had just eaten something when Hubby caught it. It's belly was distended.
I suppose I need to be a little more careful when working in the yard.

Yes, that is a copperhead. I killed five or six of them in the yard during the first couple of years we lived here. (I will relocate non-venomous snakes--or just leave them be if Lea doesn't know about them--but I ain't havin' venomous reptiles living and breeding in my yard.) The juveniles look like the adults, except they have bright yellow-orange tails.
They're not aggressive, but will bite if startled.
Thanks a bunch, Bo. Hubby put it out of our misery. Our neighbor's cat was playing with one last fall. Not the brightest animal!
